Multiregional cultural evolution in Africa
This project aims to model multiregional scenarios of human culture evolution in Africa during the last 300 millennia against the backdrop of changing environmental conditions. We seek to formulate testable hypotheses on interregional contacts, cultural transmission, and population networks based on selected archaeological case studies from the African continent. This involves collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data on diversification and homogenization processes of material culture on a medium spatiotemporal scale and is paramount to understanding the underlying complex dynamics of past human and earth systems.
